Music at Christ Church

The Adult Choir

"Speak to one another with the words of psalms, hymns and sacred songs;

sing hymns and psalms to the Lord with praise in your hearts." Ephesians 5:19

The people of Christ Episcopal Church embraced those words of St. Paul even as early as 1828 when the parish was chartered. As our parish begins its 182nd year, the strong musical tradition continues with weekly Eucharist services, as well as the special services of Choral Evensong and Advent Lessons and Carols.

There are four choirs here at Christ Church.  Choral training begins with Joyful Noise! for children ages three through four.  Music continues for children in Kindergarten through Second grade with the Saint Gregory Choir.  The Saint Cecilia Singers are the advanced children's choir for those in grades three through five.  Our choral program culminates with the Adult Choir which is open to singers  high school age and older.

Christ Church has also provided a home for The Alabama Choir School since its founding in 1985.  This community organization for children's choral music education consists of six choirs for children in grades two through twelve which meet Monday through Thursday afternoons each week.  For more information about this program, please visit http://www.alachoirschool.org/
